Cellular Melodies

Cellular Melodies is a hypothetical plant concert hosted by the Huntington. Using various technologies, I wanted to bring a voice, literally, to an otherwise silent member of our planet. The concert is created in hopes to promote the Huntington’s extensive botanical collections, and to also bring light to the many complexities and intelligence of plants.

The music data was collected by a plant listening device that picks up on the plant’s electric signals and generates the signals into sounds. In the music, there will be moments of chaos and disharmony, as well as moments synchronicities. Data was then put into Processing to generate sound-wave imagery, which then was used as the graphic language of the concert.
